The Detroit Public Schools emergency manager has imposed a three-year contract for its teachers.
The district says the contract includes 10-percent wage reduction from last year, but keeps the same health and dental benefits for teachers and gets rid of sick pay cash-out upon retirement.
The contract also reduces maternity leave to 12 weeks.
The president of the teachers union is unhappy with the imposed contract and says the union plans to ignore it.
Under a new state law, emergency managers for three school districts — including Detroit — can impose new contracts without negotiating with the unions.
Detroit Federation of Teachers president Keith Johnson blasted the emergency manager's plan Tuesday as a "farce."
