DETROIT – In honor of the Detroit Tigers manager, the Leland Hotel has temporarily changed its name to the "Leyland."
When the Tigers slumped in September, Jim Leyland was in the crosshairs.
Then the team won the American League Pennant and Leyland has become a hero to the city and its fans.
The Leland, which was built in 1927 as a luxurious hotel in the city of Detroit, is at 400 Bagley Street.
Now, amid the brisk October wind, the Leland's marquee was transformed as a sign of honor for the Tigers manager.
"The Leyland" sign is taped right next to the real name while the Tigers take on the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.
The teams are in Detroit this weekend for games 3 and 4 at Comerica Park. The hotel is just around the block from the ball park.
