Detroit's Globe building getting makeover

The abandoned yet historic Globe building along Detroit's riverfront is getting a much needed make over.

Governor Rick Snyder announced a $12.8 million renovation for the building Saturday afternoon. The building will become a state run Department of Natural Resources adventure and education center.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year or early next year and is expected to be completed in late 2013 or early 2014.

The center will feature hands-on, interactive experiences in archery, kayaking, fishing, camping and more.

After the announcement, Snyder and other officials hopped on bicycles and went for a ride down the Dequindre Cut.
