DETROIT – Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has suspended Police Chief Ralph Godbee for 30 days amid an investigation into allegations of a personal relationship with a fellow police officer.

Bing said Assistant Chief Chester Logan will take over Godbee's duties.

Local 4 Defender Karen Drew has learned that the allegations involve Angelica Robinson, a 17-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department who currently works in Internal Affairs, and a 27-year-old woman who does not work for the Police Department.

Godbee and Robinson are both married.

Detroit police officer says she has had affair with Godbee for more than year

Robinson recently was Tweeting details about her alleged relationship with Godbee. She tells Local 4 she was in a sexual relationship with Godbee for more than a year. She was upset that the Detroit police chief was at a police officers convention in San Diego with the 27-year-old woman.

"If he is a man of God, he will tell the truth," Robinson said. "I truly apologize to his wife and my husband."

Robinson also is the president of Soaring Ealges Alternative, a non profit. Photos of Godbee and Robinson at SEA events are on the non profit's website.

Robinson said she understands an evaluation and possible suspension would be protocol. Godbee is expected to return from San Diego on Wednesday.

He was named police chief two years ago after DPD chief Warren Evans was asked to resign. Bing said Evans was having a relationship with another member of the force which was affecting his ability to lead.
