Police in Ferndale say they’ve arrested a man who ran from police with a toddler in his arms after being pulled over for driving a stolen car.
Ferndale police say Vilary Renard Reed was stopped Tuesday on Eight Mile Road because he was driving a stolen Ford Crown Victoria. He then sped off, driving on side streets and running stop signs until he crashed in Detroit at Pennington Drive and Pembrooke Avenue, police said.
Reed took off running on foot carrying a 21-month-old boy, eventually handing him to a woman he passed, police said.
He was eventually arrested.
The baby was unharmed and turned over to his mother, police said. Reed is not the baby’s father was baby-sitting him at the time.
Police said Reed, a Detroit resident, is currently on parole for a fleeing and eluding and has previous convictions for receiving and concealing stolen vehicles.
