Chesterfield Twp., Mich. -

Chesterfield Township police are investigating what led to an accident which claimed the life of an Eastpointe man.

Police were called to a home on 26 Mile Road just East of Scheuer Rd Monday morning after getting a 911 call from a resident who said a car crashed into the ditch in front of their home.

When officers responded, they found the driver, 52-year-old James Vanhevel of Eastpointe, dead inside his heavily-damaged 2006 Buick.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but police believe alcohol may have been a factor.
