Crooks pepper spray employees during robbery at Birmingham jewelry store

2 Rolex watches stolen from Greenstone's Jewelry in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Birmingham police say three men ambushed jewelry store employees with pepper spray during a robbery Tuesday.

Police said the men entered Greenstone's Jewelry on Old Woodward just before 1 p.m. and smashed display cases with a metal mallet while using pepper spray on two employees.

Two Rolex watches were stolen.

"You could just hear a big boom. And then I looked behind and a guy was rolling off of the car, rolled onto the ground, and those two other guys jumped on there, and then they all ran that way," said Bridgit Gilliatt, who witnessed the robbers' escape.

Police say the men got away in a blue or black four-door SUV, possibly a GMC Yukon.
