A couple who was caught on camera stealing a donation jar from a 7-Eleven in Howell Township last weekend has been arrested.
Livingston County Sheriff Bob Bezotte said Thursday that the 34-year-old man and his 28-year-old wife were taken into custody the day before through information received from public tips.
The couple was caught on surveillance cameras Saturday at the convenience store at M-59 and Grand River Avenue. They were in the store a first time and then returned a short time later, with a young girl.
The man put the jar -- which had about $100 in it to help pay for surgery needed by a girl with cerebral palsy -- in his pants and walked out.
Bezotte said once the couple was identified through tips, investigators found that they were living near the 7-Eleven. The man was arrested after he was found hiding under the floor in the laundry room of a home in the 4700 block of West Grand River Avenue. Bezotte said he has several outstanding warrants and is already on parole.
His wife was also taken into custody without incident.
A child that was with them was released to a family member.
