Police in western Pennsylvania blew the lid off one man's attempted toilet theft scam.

Bobby Clifford Smith III, 32, is charged with theft and related charges after police in Windber said he exchanged a toilet he did not buy for gift cards at  a Lowes home improvement store, the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat reported.

Smith is accused of entering the store on Aug. 28, grabbing a toilet from the shelf and then walking to the return counter to exchange it for more than $600 in gift cards, according to The Associated Press.

One thing Smith didn't think of -- surveillance cameras captured the entire incident.

He remained in the Somerset County jail on a $30,000 bond.
