Chrysler Plans Overhaul Of Jefferson Plant

Chrysler employees are bracing for cuts as the automaker prepares to trim its workforce -- but there's good news for one local plant.

The Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit is due for an overhaul to make it more flexible as part of the company's turnaround plan.

Chrysler plans to invest nearly $1 billion in the facility.

The specifics will be announced next week. Analysts believe the company's turnaround plan will include greater sharing between Daimler-Chrysler AG's Chrysler and Mercedes car groups.
