The student, Carly Christine Glynn of Grand Rapids, lived in the Snyder-Phillips residential hall.

Monday afternoon the University announced tests for meningococcal disease and other common infectious agents came back negative.

Officials with the health department are continuing their investigation, and further testing could take several weeks. No other MSU students have shown symptoms suggesting a serious infection, and there is nothing to suggest an ongoing risk for the campus community.

Though a cause of death has not been identified, students who experience flu-like symptoms, sore throat and a high fever, unlike most respiratory illnesses, should contact the Olin Student Health Center nurse line at 517-353-5557 or a health care provider. Anyone getting rapidly ill should go directly to the emergency room.
