Brothers save girl from fiery car crash in Almont

Girl pulled from car after fiery crash in Lapeer County

ALMONT, Mich. – Katie Burrows could have lost her life in a car crash, but fast action by two teenaged brothers saved her.

Burrows was driving Sunday at the intersection of Dryden and Glover roads in the Lapeer County community of Almont when she was involved in an accident.

"A girl ran a stop sign on Dryden and I T-boned her and went into the ditch and I remember screaming," Burrows said.

As Katie's car burst into flames, two young brothers living nearby took action.

Jacob Viaene, 17, and his 15-year-old brother, Daniel Viaene, reacted instantly.

"I heard the crash and my mom screamed accident, so we all ran out front. He got to the car first. My mom called 911," said Jacob Viaene. "He ripped the door open and broke the window out  and then we both pulled her out together and got outside the car and carried her away from the car."

Burrows is back home recovering from the injuries she sustained in the accident.

Jacob and Daniel paid her a visit Tuesday and she was happy to see them.

"Yearh, thank you, they saved my life pretty much," Katie said.

The heroic brothers said the events are beginning to sink in now as they realize what could have happened if they had not gotten involved.
