Bobby Ferguson wants to be let out on bond to find new attorney in upcoming bid-rigging trial

Former Detroit contractor found guilty last month of racketeering, now faces conspiracy trial in May

DETROIT – Former Detroit contractor Bobby Ferguson wants to be let out of jail to find a new attorney to represent him in a federal bid-rigging trial.

In a bond request filed Tuesday, Ferguson's attorney Gerald Evelyn said his client's upcoming trial is "highly complicated."

"Mr. Ferguson needs to identify and communicate with potential new counsel, and as currently situated, cannot do so in a private and confidential manner, whether by phone or email," Evelyn said.

Evelyn said his client won't flee if let out on bond because his passport has already been seized and Ferguson intends to vigorously contest the allegations.
