Beverly Hills police officer hurt when chase ends in crash

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -

A Beverly Hills police officer is recovering after being involved in chase that ended in a crash overnight.

Police said the chase started just after midnight when Southfield police got a report of a man with a gun at a TGI Friday’s. When they arrived, the man sped off on Evergreen Road – eventually losing control of his car north of 13 Mile Road and hitting the officer before crashing into a tree.

Police said the officer was hit while he was trying to put down stop sticks to stop the suspect. He was thrown about 30 feet and taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak with several injuries. He’s in temporary critical condition.

The suspect was arrested and also taken to the hospital.
