Attorney for Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson say his client wasn't drinking before crash

Patterson injured Aug. 10 in Auburn Hills crash; Driver charged

WATERFORD, Mich. – The attorney for Oakland County Executive L. Brooks say neither his client nor Brooks' driver had been drinking at the time of a serious August crash in Auburn Hills.

At a press conference, attorney Steven Potter said the "innuendo" that the two had been drinking was made by the defense team of the man charged in the crash – Anthony Prainito.

Police say the county executive's vehicle, a black Chrysler 300, was traveling eastbound on Walton Boulevard on Aug. 10 when another car, a blue Volkswagen Passat, which was turning left at the intersection collided with Patterson's vehicle.

Patterson, 73, was a front-seat passenger. He suffered multiple broken bones and is starting a rehabilitation program. His driver, James Cram, remains hospitalized.

Potter said Patterson and Cram were voluntarily releasing a portion of their medical records and toxicology reports to show that there was no alcohol in their blood at the time of the crash.
