Detroit -

A check of metro Detroit gas stations by Local 4 News and the website shows prices have dropped 18-20 cents a gallon in just the past week,

The Citgo station at Main and 5th Street in Belleville had the lowest advertised price at $2.99.

The Marathon in Roseville at Gratiot and Shadowoods was at $3.05, the Sunoco at 14 Mile and Utica Rd in Fraser, the Citgo at 8 Mile and Regent Drive in Detroit, and the Marathon on McNichols in Highland Park were all at $3.06 or $3.07.

The national average price of gasoline has dropped to a fraction of a penny under $3.25 a gallon, according to the American Automobile Association. That's the lowest average in almost two years -- welcome news for the estimated 84.4 million Americans planning to hit the roads when the holiday period officially gets underway on Saturday.
