911 call: Mom safely delivers baby in Commerce Township parking lot

Highland Township family welcomes new baby boy in SUV

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 911 call doesn't always have a happy ending, but this one does.

Samantha Mussen went into labor on Feb. 16 and rushed to Providence Park Hospital, but the family was told they could leave. But once back at home, the Mussen's son was ready to make his debut.

Samantha, her husband, Brian, and their 3-year-old daughter got back into the car and started the drive back to the hospital -- but there wasn't enough time.

"The whole time I just couldn't believe it was actually happening. She kept saying it was and I kept saying, 'No, it's not," Brian told Local 4.

The family pulled into a Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall parking lot and called 911, but the baby's head was already showing.

"The baby was just born … I just delivered him here in the parking lot," Samantha tells the 911 operator.

The operator asked Samantha is she had any complications and if the baby was breathing. Samantha said the baby didn't cry, but was breathing and she was fine.

"He's here," Samantha is heard telling her daughter on the 911 call.

Paramedics arrived and made sure the baby, whose name is Brady, was healthy.

"They said everything's good. They were being so sweet. They were like, 'He'll be OK,'" Samantha said.
