Farm owner charged with animal cruelty

HOWELL, Mich. – Animal rescue groups and the Livingston County Animal Control have removed nine horses who are suspected of suffering neglect at a farm in Howell.

The Michigan Horse Welfare Coalition said the county found a dead horse at the farm, which is at 7485 Byron Road, in January.

Following an investigation, MHWC was asked to help remove other horses.

The horses were taken to Starry Skies Equine Rescue in Ann Arbor and Horses' Haven in Howell for rehabilitation.

The farm's owner, Velva Jean Wainscot, has been charged with animal cruelty.
