36th District Court in Detroit says there was never any bedbugs in courtroom

Room had been emptied Thursday after bugs spotted on man

DETROIT – The 36th District Court says it wasn't bedbugs that were spotted Thursday in one of its courtrooms.

Judge Cylenthia LaToye Miller emptied room 439 after a bailiff reported seeing bugs crawling on a man who was sitting in the first row of seats.

Miller and her staff had been sent home after they were unable to move her cases to another courtroom.

A spokeswoman for the court on Friday said a pest control vendor had been called in to investigate and found no evidence of bedbugs.

Court resumed normally.

A pest-control company sprays the building each quarter. Court officials say a dog also is used to sniff out bedbugs.
