DETROIT -

Michigan State Police are investigating a shooting that shut down Interstate 96 in Detroit early Sunday morning.

State troopers say the shooting happened just after 4 a.m. in the westbound local lanes of I-96 at Greenfield Road. They say the three victims were on their way home from the Blue Stone Club in Detroit when an unknown pickup truck pulled alongside their vehicle and began shooting. The victims lost control of their vehicle and came to a rest on the shoulder of the freeway.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene. The make and model of the truck is not known.

One of the passengers, a 34-year-old man, was shot but is expected to survive. The other two passengers suffered minor injuries from glass shattering inside the car. All three were transported to the hospital.

Police closed a portion of I-96 for two hours before lanes were reopened around 6:30 a.m.

Details are limited while State Police investigate. The freeway was closed for just over two hours. Michigan State Police are asking anyone with information to contact their tip line at 877-616-4677. Callers can remain anonymous
