DETROIT – Thousands of walkers took part in the 21st Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday.
Registration kicked off at 7 a.m. at Comerica Park with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m. that honored breast cancer survivors and lost loved ones.

The race is a great way to remember, honor and celebrate loved ones who have battled cancer. Race for the Cure also supports screenings, education and treatment programs.
In addition to the thousands of participants, Local 4's Morning News team was also at the event.
"This day is all about finding a cure for so many families impacted," said Rhonda Walker.
Ashlee Baracy says her mother is a survivor.
"This is such an inspirational day," said Baracy.
The event included a 5K run, 5K walk and 1 mile walk, which started at 9 a.m. and finished with a closing ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
Race for the Cure is presented by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
