2 die in car fire after Oxford Township accident

METAMORA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

Two people are dead after an early morning car accident in Metamora Township.

The Oakland County sheriff's department says the crash happened about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, just across the line of neighboring Lapeer County

Police arrived on the scene to find a car fully engulfed in flames, they said it appeared to have been burning for some time.

Crews extinguished the fire and the remains of a driver and passenger were discovered inside.

Police say the vehicle struck the northeast embankment of the intersection, went airborne and came to rest on Barber Rd.

Metamora Township police say authorities believe they know the names of the victims but are awaiting the results of autopsies and dental examinations before they release any names.
