18-year-old Detroit man shot over $400 Nike Air Jordans

Kavon Coleman shot on Detroit's west side after buying shoes, Crime Stoppers offering reward for suspect

DETROIT – Kavon Coleman saved all summer for a pair of Nike Air Jordans.

The 18-year-old almost paid for them with his life. His aunt, Kimberly Adams, still has a hard time understanding it all.

"For somebody to just try to take his life for a pair of shoes is just so senseless," said Adams.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can find the person who shot Coleman three times over a pair of $400 shoes.

"Anybody would want somebody to turn themselves in for doing something to them, but you know, there is no telling who else they are gonna hurt," said Coleman.

The shooting happened in August just after Coleman and a friend got off a bus at Greenfield Road and Schoolcraft on Detroit's west side. Doctors say he may live with physical scars for the res of his life.

"He's walking one day. Has a promising future. And then the next day a colostomy bag, can't walk," Adams said.

Coleman said he will walk again.

"They not about to tell me I am not going to walk, 'cause I'm gonna walk. I am gonna walk. I am gonna play sports again," he said.

Anyone with information on the shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-Up.
