$9K of equipment stolen from Wyandotte Jaycees haunted house

Huanted house volunteers devastated by break-in, theft which leaves them with $9,000 worth of equipment, tools

WYANDOTTE, Mich. – Even in a house filled with a blood splatter tea party, wall-to-wall "Jason" masks and some toxic waste signs, Nadia Brunt has been brought to tears.

Brunt is the manager at the Wyandotte Jaycees, an organization which gets teens involved in their community. Jaycees' latest project in Wyandotte is "Nightmare Sanctam." However, the scariest part of this haunted house is not the butcher block, it's the empty boxes.

"I've put some much into the Jaycees and so much in to the organization, and it hurts that someone would take that away," said Brunt.

On Tuesday night, the back door which is labeled with no trespassing was kicked in. The thieves stole $9,000 worth of equipment.

The haunted house volunteers could barely hand their toxic waste tubes without their nail gun.

"When we close up for the night we leave them there because we are going to be coming right back and continuing to work on it, finishing our haunt. Unfortunately, that lead to it being stolen," said Brunt. "Drills hammers, our Hilti gun, which is quite an expensive piece of equipment we use every year."

While the opening night of "Nightmare Sanctam" is in jeopardy, the haunted house workers are hopeful, thanks to some helping hands.
