Tampa Bay Lightning center Valtteri Filppula (51), of Finland, prepares to shoot on Detroit Red Wings goalie Jonas Gustavsson (50), of Sweden, during the first period of an NHL hockey game Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, in Tampa,

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Tampa Bay Lightening Thursday night 2-1 in a shootout.

Anyone surprised?

The Wings haven’t won a shootout game in 11 tries dating back to last season and it was their 6th straight shootout loss this season.

What is the problem? The Wings have a bunch of talented guys; you’d think ONE of them would be able to score. Get this: they’ve only gotten one by an opposing goalie in 2 of 21 tries.

If the main guys aren’t cutting it, I say, try some of the others. Jonathan Ericcsson? Sure! A slapper from the point might work. Or give Cory Emmerton a shot, or maybe Mikael Samuelsson.

Coach Mike Babcock has to go outside the box for the next shootout to try to get a different result.

You never know, maybe one of them will pull out a Datsyukian move and pull the Wings out of this shootout funk.
