Flashpoint: Detroit schools, 'The Choice Is Ours'

DETROIT – This week's edition of Flashpoint started with a look at the publication 'The Choice Is Ours.'

Three members of the team that produced the work joined Devin Scillian on the set to talk about what 'The Choice Is Ours' means to Detroit and the city's current state.

In the second segment, the conversation turned toward the state of Detroit Public Schools and how far they've come over the years.

Devin asked Dr. Glenda Price of the DPS Foundation about her thoughts on the direction of the school system and whether the city has seen significant improvement over the last several years.

Reggie Turner, a former Michigan Board of Education Member, Rochelle Riley, a columnist for the Detroit Free Press, and Daniel Howes, a business columnist for the Detroit News, also weighed in on the situation.

In the third segment, the panel returned to talk about the importance of education for children.

Riley shared her strong feelings about education and why she disagrees with much of the common perception surrounding education in the local areas.

The other members of the panel also joined in on the conversation.
