Detroit police seek woman who carjacked 75-year-old

Victim is OK after incident Sunday off Gratiot Avenue

DETROIT – Detroit police are looking for a carjacker who targeted a 75-year-old woman on Sunday.

The elderly victim, who asked not to be identified, told Local 4 she's a lifelong Detroiter and heeds all safety warnings to be aware of her surroundings.

The victim said she went grocery shopping Sunday afternoon at a store on Gratiot Avenue and was putting her groceries into her car when she was approached by a woman in her 30s. The younger woman explained that she was stranded and needed a ride.

The victim said she was concerned about her own security, but remembered lessons about being a good Samaritan and offered the younger woman a ride.

But it all backfired once the two got into the car.

The victim said the younger woman forced her to pull over into a gas station parking lot. There, the younger woman pulled out a gun and robbed the victim of cash and drove off with the victim's 2009 Chevy Malibu.

The car was equipped with the "OnStar" system and was tracked via GPS. It was found abandoned.

"I guess being chivalrous and being a good Samaritan doesn't pay off," the victim told Local 4.

The carjacker is described as a black woman in her 30s, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 130 pounds. She was wearing a baggy black coat with a hood, tan boots that went up to her knees.
