DETROIT – Thousands of people took to the streets Saturday in Detroit for the Race for the Cure -- each and every one of them with a story of how cancer has affected their life in some way.
Some of them were supporters, others survivors and a few of them were brave women in the midst of their own fight against breast cancer.
It's not about the starting line or the finish: It's about the journey. It was a day of sharing hugs and personal stories.
About 30,000 participants making up 500 teams lined Jefferson on Saturday, with angels above shining their light down on the loved ones honoring their memory: Same mission, same race, new place -- Chene Park.
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
Over the past 23 years, the Komen Detroit Race for the Cure has raised more than $25 million for breast health programs in Michigan, helping to turn more patients into survivors and bringing men and women together for one cause -- finding a cure.
