DETROIT – A Detroit nonprofit working to improve the higher education opportunities of at-risk, inner-city African-American boys will hold its 15th annual gala-awards ceremony Saturday, June 7 at the MGM Grand Ballroom.
Real Life 101's program is currently in 13 schools throughout Detroit and 26 schools across the country.

This year, Real Life 101 said it will be awarding more than 234 at-risk high school seniors with new laptop computers loaded with software and computer bags at their Gala on June 7.
Real Life 101 said it will also be awarding special scholarships to students in addition to honoring a few local Detroit dignitaries with a "Black Male of Distinction" award.
Some of the confirmed recipients of the Black Male of Distinction award are former Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, Detroit Chief of Police James Craig and Dr. K.B. Stallworth. The organization said they are being awarded for the work they do within the city and community.
"With all of the horrific news headlines and crimes that are taking place right in the city of Detroit amongst African-American boys between the ages of 14-18, highlighting this organization and a few of the local Detroit scholarship recipients will spread hope across metro Detroit in a very impactful way," the organization said.
Real Life 101 said it expects more than 600 people to attend Saturday's event.
