Money raised through a charity softball tournament last summer will be put to work this weekend for grassroots volunteers who make the best "pitch."

CommunityNEXT will hear proposals from three finalists for thousands of dollars in micro-grants to innovate high-impact education programs for Detroit youth.

Among them is a program teaching financial responsibility to college-bound Detroit high school students.

The Do it for Detroit event will kick off Saturday at Woodbridge Community Youth Center in Detroit.

Anyone who has an idea for helping Detroit’s youth can make a pitch themselves through the Do It For Detroit Fund website.
