One of the keys to keeping your car in good condition is staying up-to-date on oil changes. But how often should you change the oil?

It used to be said that cars should get an oil change every 3,000 miles. While that could still be true for older vehicles and vehicles with certain conditions, newer models can wait longer.

According to Cars.com, manufacturers including Ford, Volkswagen, Porsche and Toyota recommend oil changes every 10,000 miles on certain models. BMW told Cars.com some models can go 15,000 miles between oil changes.

However, according to Cars.com, manufacturers recommend more frequent oil changes if you’re driving in severe weather and in severe conditions, and if you do a lot of stop-and-go driving.
