Chrysler injects style into new 200

DETROIT -

Chrysler took the wraps off the all-new 200 midsize sedan Monday at the Detroit Auto Show.

The company sold a respectable 122,000 200s in 2013. Still, it's far from the sales number of its competitors like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

Chrysler hopes to improve those sales numbers for the 2015 model with features like a nine-speed transmission that helps the car achieve up to 35 miles per gallon on the highway.

Inside the car, Chrysler included conveniences like a center console that includes a covered charging station and cupholders that slide out of the way for more storage space. Even shifting the transmission is different and controlled by a dial instead of a lever.

The car also has a 5- or 8.4-inch touch screen for things like audio, navigation and phone connections.

Under the hood, there are two engine choices: a 3.6-liter V6 engine with nearly 300 horsepower and 262 pound feet of torque, or a standard 4-cylinder engine good for 184 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque.

The company is also quick to point out that it has greatly improved its assembly process that will help reduce the energy needed to build a 200 by 62 percent compared to the 2014 model.

The cost is also down a bit from the 2014 model. The new 200 will start at $21,700 when it goes on sale later this year.
