ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The annual free tree giveaway is back this spring with nearly 4,000 saplings ready for new homes.

Ann Arbor households can sign up for a time slot to get up to four saplings from two different pickup sites in April.

Trees are small, bare-root saplings or seedlings that can be transported in most cars, officials said.

This year, nine different species of trees ranging from the Eastern White Pine and Burr Oak to the Common Pawpaw and Eastern Redbud will be handed out. Supplies of each tree are limited and cannot be reserved when timeslots are selected.

The giveaway is part of the 10,000 Trees Initiative, a function of the city’s A2ZERO plan which aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2030.

Register and learn about the trees here.
