Marla Drutz

Marla Drutz was named Vice President and General Manager of WDIV-TV Detroit on July 28, 2008. Under her leadership, WDIV Local 4 has strengthened its dominance in the market with top-rated/most watched newscasts and bolstered a strong commitment to outstanding community service.

Local 4 News has consistently remained the #1 newscast at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. in Nielsen household ratings for the Detroit television market, and Local 4 News at 11 p.m. has maintained the title of highest-rated newscast of all NBC affiliates in the top 11 markets nationwide. In addition, the Local 4 News team has been presented with three highly coveted Edward R. Murrow Awards from the RTDNA for news coverage. Drutz is most proud of WDIV’s 2011 Service To America Award. The prestigious national honor presented by the National Association of Broadcasters recognizes the station’s commitment to outstanding community service. 

Prior to joining WDIV, Drutz served as the Director of Programming and Special Projects for the E.W. Scripps Company and WXYZ-TV (Detroit).  She was responsible for programming purchases, productions and scheduling of five Scripps Television stations across the country, including WXYZ. Earlier in her career, Drutz was the Research Director for WXYZ and worked as the Director of Marketing for WJBK-TV (Detroit). Drutz began her career as a research analyst at WJW in Cleveland. Throughout her career in broadcasting, Drutz has received numerous professional awards including Emmy Awards, first-place awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and a “Top Woman in Management” Award from the Detroit Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television.  She has been honored as a member of the NATAS Silver Circle and has been selected by Corp! Magazine as one of Michigan’s Top Businesswomen.

A graduate of Leadership Detroit XIII, Drutz is a member of the NBC Affiliate Board of Directors, the National Association of Television Program Executives (NAPTE) and The Adcraft Club of Detroit. She serves on the executive board of the Michigan Chapter of the International Women’s Forum and is a board member of The United Way, The Detroit Convention and Visitors Bureau, New Detroit and Oakland Family Services.

Drutz holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in journalism and communication.
