Small Business Saturday is all about keeping your dollars in your own home town.

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. -

Small Business Saturday is all about keeping your dollars in your own home town.

It's like Black Friday with a twist.

"It really is an awesome opportunity for people to take their dollars and make a statement in a community like Birmingham," said Business Owner Michael Collins.

Collins is preparing his home gift store for the big rush.

He is like so many local shop owners who are hoping Small Business Saturday will give Black Friday a run for the money.

"When you spend money in a big box store that money goes to wall street, not the main street, not the main street you live in," said Collins.

"If everyone gets on board I think in a few more years it is going to be pretty well know, " said business owner Gary Astrein. "It's just to let us know there is another element of shopping out there."
